TPYF SCOTLAND – Learning and Social Outcomes
Through the creation of vignettes, participants will be motivated to learn more about the Second World War and post-1945 conflicts and their relevance to Scottish life today. Projects will be expected to include investigative activities which will provide engaging opportunities for intergenerational learning, thus creating a lasting legacy of digital assets relating to the Scottish experience of the Second World War and post-1945 conflicts.
Learning is at the very heart of Their Past Your Future Phase 2. The Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (MLA) have identified learning objectives within their Inspiring Learning for All (ILfA) framework. This is transforming how learning is defined, planned for and measured, and clearly defines learning as an active and individual process.
Within this wider framework are the Generic Learning Outcomes (GLOs). These GLOs allow a wide range of individual learning outcomes, from enjoyment to improved social skills, to be grouped into categories and evaluated as evidence of learning.
The Generic Social Outcomes (GSOs) build on the GLOs. The GLOs capture learning (for example, learning to use e-mail). However, they don’t necessarily establish wider social outcomes associated with that learning (for example, using e-mail to stay in touch with family and friends). The GSOs also help evidence health and well-being outcomes that might not be captured by the GLOs.
Their Past Your Future Scotland Phase 2 has used the GLOs and GSOs to ensure that the project’s objectives promote a wide range of meaningful and positive experiences for all involved, regardless of whether activities are in a formal education context such as schools or colleges, or more informal settings such as museums, galleries or libraries.
The five GLOs and three GSOs are listed (see links on left) along with the more specific outcomes that the project is aiming to achieve.
