World War II Exhibition at Clydebank Museum

15/08/2009

15 August - 7 November 2009

Marking victory in Japan (VJ Day) and the official end of World War II this major exhibition at Clydebank Museum provides a background to WWII and a pictorial history of the impact of this global conflict on West Dunbartonshire. The exhibition is of great relevance to the community and its heritage. The exhibition will be supported by an extensive education programme for schools including tours, production of teaching resources and workshops.

The exhibition will focus on the stories of veterans and survivors in particular of the Clydebank Blitz. This will be a ‘peoples’ exhibition which aims to promote the human experience of WWII, the Clydebank Blitz, its tragedies, heroisms and the resilience of the people. The exhibition will include archives, artefacts, photographs, film footage and reconstructions.

This striking exhibition will include supported visits for community groups and an extensive schools programme including tours and workshops linked to the Curriculum for Excellence. These will be facilitated through handling kits for schools and communities for use in conjunction with the exhibition providing a legacy of resource material for schools and communities thereafter.
